Omega Day on the Hill

Article by Bro Quentin Moore

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity makes Its mark at Kentucky State Capital. On February 15, 2023, The Brothers of the Fifth District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity made their presence felt at the Kentucky State Capitol during the first-ever Omegas on the Hill event. This historic event saw approximately 50 Omegas from Kentucky and Tennessee come together to witness a proclamation presented in honor of the dearly departed Brother Robert Jefferson.

The men of Omega Psi Phi were acknowledged in both the Kentucky Senate and House, a great honor for the fraternity.

The event was graced by the presence of some distinguished guests, including Representative George Brown of Lexington (District 77), Senator Gerald Neal of Louisville (District 33), and Senator Reggie Thomas of Lexington (District 113). Also in attendance were 5th District Representative Sam McKenzie, a state representative (District 15) in Tennessee, and Brother Vincent Dixie (District 54), who is also a state representative in Tennessee.

The Omegas on the Hill event was a powerful reminder of the impact that Omega Psi Phi has in both local and national politics. The fraternity’s purple blazers served as a symbol of unity and solidarity among the brothers, a testament to the important work that Omega Psi Phi does.

The success of the event was due in no small part to the efforts of Brother Charles Duke, who was responsible for organizing it. The Omegas on the Hill event was such a success that plans are already underway to hold it annually.

Brother Darryl VanCleave, the Basileus of Theta Omega Chapter in Louisville, emphasized the importance of showcasing Omega Psi Phi's support and strength within the state. Brother Quentin Moore, the Basileus of Psi Tau Chapter in Lexington, has challenged Omegas worldwide to take action at the local, state, and national levels to effect change. He encourages participation even in the absence of physical attendance at events like Omegas on the Hill, suggesting letter writing campaigns and other means of involvement.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity continues to make its mark on the world, and the Omegas on the Hill event is just one example of the impact the fraternity has in the community. We look forward to future events, and we strongly encourage all brothers to attend and be a part of Omega’s continued success.
